Postcript re: yesterdays entry - I’ve learned that Saint Patrick is the patron saint of pest management of the animal kind … even though the legend of him running snakes out of Ireland is probably bull.
And Saint Gertrude, the unofficial “cat lady” of the Catholic Church, didn’t feel all that saintly when it came to rodents. Her veneration as protector against rats and mice dates from the early 15th century during the Black Plague and spread from Southwestern Germany to the Netherlands and finally … to Catalonia.
