Lush Life   The verse describes the author's weariness of the night life after a failed romance, wasting time with "jazz and cocktails" at "come-what-may places" and in the company of girls with "sad and sullen gray faces/ with distingué traces". Spent the whole night online watching people listen to music ... young peeps hearing Like a Rolling Stone for the first time - first time hearing about/ listening to Dylan.   I submitted the above to Sothebys appraisals. The head is 19th century France ... milliners head. Also called a  marchotte. The childs chair is Spanish 18th century. As a younger man, I liked to believe I was relatively well put together. I took care of my appearance, choosing my clothes carefully and ensuring my hair was the way I liked it. Though I am not tall – and have even been described as diminutive – I have never felt inferior to other men. That is, until one evening fifteen years ago. I was at a dinner at a club in the West End when a male model sat down beside me. This was the foremost underwear model of the time, with a vast chest and iron jaw, and so tall that if I were to stand up, he could have snuggled my pretty head into his armpit. He clearly had no idea who I was and no interest in finding out. After offering me his huge hand, he turned his chair in the other direction and spent the evening entertaining a series of giddy women who materialised around our table. earlier today ... a guy in front of the library yelled at two messenger guys taking a break from their bikes ... you're immigrants. I can tell. you're ruining this country ... go back to where you came from. they stayed cool. a beautiful young girl crossed the street, smiled and made soft, strong eye contact and said ...  such a lovely day. I said  yes, yes, back to her. A simple affirming something thing that evens things out.

 

My latest Youtube rabbit hole are kids/babies hearing or seeing for the first time and their breathtaking moment of understanding that something beautiful and big has happened. They hear their mother, they see their father. The parents are as overjoyed by the change in their child.  In a home movie, my sister Jessie is five or six with fair skin and long black pigtails. We sit on the rug in front of our fireplace, I lift her braids high and she widens her eyes as much as possible and makes a big O out of her mouth. She's very happy to make our family laugh.

  7 girls I knew when we were 13 my good friend Kit just died. she is top row second from right. glorious girl.  next to her ... on the end is Kim Merton. She had eight kids and died very early.  Blonde Carol Malone is on Kit's left. She died too, after getting divorced and spending too many summers getting way too much sun at Point Lookout.   Next to Carol is Eileen Mc Cormick who I think still lives in our hometown. Her older sister Barbara was my sister Reginas bridesmaid. She won a car and I remember telling my mother "too bad she has to pay taxes on it."  Bottom row ...
