A Tale of Two CIty ... Chairs

A chair with a refined and unmistakable shape inspired by 1950s and 1960s design that adds a dash of character and perfectly adjusts to any setting, residential or commercial alike.

Ma Belle, designed by Roberto Lazzeroni in 1994, is the perfect example of how the craft of woodworking can be transposed to an industrial dimension. This chair has an organic shape and an extremely lightweight feel, conveyed by a series of sinuous lines that come together in an interplay of large empty spaces. The armrests connect the back with the front legs, creating a unique design.

Ma Belle is made from solid American walnut wood in four thicknesses: the skillfully shaped backrest is crafted from a single 100 mm thick piece. The slats are joined together, giving life to an X-shaped construction that effortlessly supports the seat.
The padded poplar plywood seat rests on four turned brass spacers that block it and give stability. The bottom part is made from walnut veneer.

Regina and I walk home from the museum and spot two chairs a few doors away from mine. They are beautiful:  anthropomorphic, Italian by way of spicy scan mid cen mod, walnut, sultry curves to kick for, the whole kit and kaboodle.  We wonder if they are about to be moved somewhere and the owner forgot his car keys and will be right back. We stare at them over a wrought iron gate. They're like exotic immodest Swahili animals staring back at us with wide grins. Our amazement augments as we continue to stare at them with a certain amount of saliva inducing lust. My building neighbor Aaron walks by with his dog and assures us ... its in the garbage, right next to the cans all by their silent lonesome. Gina google lens' them and it comes up with 300 dollars. We walk them back to my place. We ooo and aaahhh a lot more and move them here and there in my apt. She goes home and being the lamebrain, knucklehead loser I still am after all these years - you'd think Ida learned by now ... after wrongly deducing I don't have room for two of these valuable items, I take the one with a coupla loose screws underneath the seat down to the basement and tape a  Free sign to it. Gina texts about Eddie doing a deep dive on them and is interested if I'm interested in splitting the substantial wanted dead or alive reward that weighs in the precarious balance. I read this info from her the following morning and text back ... too late. I cleared one out of my place last night. Gina writes back that she will never get over our (our?) loss and woe is she along with the planet.

And I find the above description online ... and find a new one sells for 3400 and one in semi-good condition on ebay for 1400 and I text her and say we can embellish the Seinfeldian tale over and over again each time we speak of it and really get our moneys worth.

It's a fun world.
